Reach Out & Read Community Impact Dashboards
In 2021 Reach Out & Read Carolinas (RORC), an early-literacy organization that partners with pediatric care providers across North and South Carolina, asked Openfields to analyze the results of their annual Parent Survey. The survey typically garners thousands of responses across hundreds of partner clinics, and RORC was seeking a way to interactively engage with the data as opposed to viewing static charts.
To provide RORC with more dynamic options for data exploration and sense-making, Openfields created a series of dashboards displaying survey responses by site across the Carolinas, overlaid with an array of Census demographic data at the census tract level. This tool enabled RORC to identify gaps between current site locations and their highest need populations, pinpoint potential areas for expanded outreach and partnership, and fully explore overall trends.
Our work with Openfields has helped us see the limits in our own thinking and begin to generate ideas and alternatives to challenge and transform the status quo.
