Research & Data Associate
The Research & Data Associate is a disciplined learner and strategic analyst, responsible for conducting, curating, and presenting social science research, policy, and data analysis to advance our clients’ social impact objectives. The Associate role is the first step in Openfields Research & Data Consultant development track which progresses from project support, to project design and management, to higher levels of technical and strategic expertise and/or team management.
The Associate’s primary role is to support client projects in a range of research, data analysis, and writing roles, including:
- Researching organizations, communities, public policies, and social impact issues
- Acquiring and analyzing raw socioeconomic data (American Community Survey, IPUMS, CDC WONDER, etc.) to inform creative problem solving, messaging, and client strategies
- Reading and synthesizing information and findings from social science and policy research
- Assisting in the design and implementation of survey, interview, and focus group research
- Developing presentations, slide decks, and client reports
- Attending client meetings, developing meeting reports
- Working closely with senior staff on both our Consulting and Research & Data teams to inform planning, strategy, and client deliverable
QUALIFICATIONS
A competitive candidate will demonstrate:
- Genuine curiosity and interest in advancing Openfields mission
- Ability to assess and synthesize information from a broad range of articles and reports
- Capability to manage and analyze data using R or Python
- Excellent written communication skills, including technical writing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel
- Interest in and an ability to independently learn new tools and applications as needed
- 1-5 years of related work and/or education experience
Additional, but not necessary, skills and interests:
- Experience using tools like ArcGIS or PowerBI for analysis and visualization
- Familiarity with digital collaboration platforms such as Google workspaces, Notion or Miro
- Interest in or familiarity with uses of artificial intelligence in research
CONDITIONS
Status: Full time, salary
Location: Greenville, SC; remote employment may be available after the first year
Travel: Some travel is expected, but most of our work is managed virtually
Reports to: Tim Green, PhD, Director of Research & Data
Start date: Position available immediately
Salary range: $40,000 - $55,000
